A Silk Saree on a Monday?? Why not, indeed 😜
I wanted to wear this #sareeoftheday to cap off the posts I've been doing about the different States that will be represented at the upcoming Global Indian Festival 2017. We've gone through West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Rajasthan.. but there's one last State to mention that I alluded to in my video post earlier today.
You see, it just so happens that I bought this Black and Vermillion beauty at the very same Global Indian Fair back in 2004! My life was in upheaval at that time, and I bought this Saree as a present to myself for getting through some major drama. I was of course quite uninformed about Sarees back then, but I knew what I liked. The merchant told me that this was a Benares Silk Saree, and even back then it cost me a small fortune. I have no idea if what he told me was true, but I can attest to the fact that it is hand loomed as the selvedge is pierced with pin holes that weavers use to fix the Saree to the loom. The Silk is heavy and the embroidery is truly stunning. If any of you have even a clue as to what it might be, could you let me know? Or I might just take the Saree with me for an expert consultation because Handloom Sarees from Uttar Pradesh will be again available for sale at the 15th Global Indian Festival 2017, which will be held from the May 31st to June 4th at the Mid Valley Megamall Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur. If you are going, have a brilliant time ok? I'll try and upload exact booth numbers on Wednesday afternoon, so that you know where to head ❤️
